A student brief which involved the redesign of an existing book cover, using only handmade techniques. I chose to redesign the book cover ‘The Last Rhinos’, using the method know as relief printing, thereby carving into a piece of silk-cut lino and hand printing the original.

The concept behind the brief was to depict something that is no longer there, that becomes almost invisible, this was achieved through the use of a light grey ink, giving it a ‘shadow effect’. The technique of cutting into the lino, was a strong reference and starting point for the idea behind the book and the cutting of rhino horns, thereby slowly killing the rhino population and adding them to the list of endangered species.
